Gold Star Memorial

This is a memorial at the end of Washington Avenue, the ceramic tile for which was set by a German POW from a captured U-Boat. He was being housed at Greenville AFB.

He chose to live in Greenville, had children, one of which is my age and a friend since High School, worked for decades for the best tile company in the Mississippi Delta.

The WWII Memorial has been modified to honor all Gold Star families from Washington County that lost members in WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam.

That’s a really great story. I’m sure that your friend’s father was proud too pay tribute to his new countrymen in this way.

Sadly, I don’t think this new crew of immigrants would be so respectful and genuine.
