First F-16 down in Ukraine

Ukraine admits the loss of an F-16, one of the six delivered this summer. The pilot was killed. He used to pilot Soviet-made jets and there lies the problem. Such a transition is not easy because of completely different types of fighter jets. We know, for example, when we drive a completely type of vehicle, let’s say a French car while we are used to driving an American car. In cases of manual (stick) shift, the problem is obvious.

Piloting MiGs or F-16s requires a split second reaction, vital for the survival, and old habits may get in the way.
