Many people think paper money evolved out of barter.
Wrong.
The origin of paper money goes back to the Rothschilds in England, which is the revival of the ancient Babylonian system.
As in my explanation to @asaratis above, a note is simply a statement that āI will do X in return for Yā
X being repairing the car, Y being mowing the lawn.
Such notes are torn apart once the actions are done and complete, since such scraps of paper have no value per se.
In the old days, the story goes, people had gold but didnāt want to store it in their houses or carry it around because it was risky. So they deposited the gold at a professional for its safekeeping.
The professional issued a note for the safekeeping of the gold āI have X amount of gold from Mr so and so.ā
And the story goes further that people started using such notes to pay for food, drink, various services, and the professional gold keeper stopped writing the name of the owner of the gold. So the note said āIf you bring this note to me, I will give back such and such amount of gold.ā
And the story goes further that the gold keeper noticed that people hardly came back to him asking for the gold. He got smart. He started writing such notes over and beyond the amount of gold he actually had in his safe.
That is another little rabbit hole if you want to stick your head in.

Ah yes ok but it was to better establish value. For example if you had a live goat but wanted a dozen eggs and that was only worth handing over half a goat you may have wanted to issue a promissory note to hand over half when the goat is slaughtered. If both parties agree that the note is worth half a goat at some point in time, then it is.

I donāt think cloned but look alike. There are some quite stark differences when you see the pictures side by side there used to be quite a lot of videos showing that but not so many about now I have noticed. I have read that the band itself was a product of the Tavistock Institute but I never looked further into that.
Didge I understand fractional reserve but come on mate you were telling me money didnāt evolve out of barter. It came about because it was convenient to have a simplified system of trading goods and services. The fact that they issued more notes than the commodity they actually had doesnāt really come into it.
