Some countries in Indochina are bitching that their de-mining (removal of unexploded mines) had to be halted since the money stopped.
Wait a minute. How many years — decades — passed since the US withdrew the troops?
How come the local governments in these countries are not financing the demining activities?
Are they so poor?
Or maybe their governments are equally corrupt.
It depends who put the mines there in the first place. Foreign countries occupying another sovereign country during a war are responsible for the costs of removing such mines after the war has concluded.
Obviously, it was the American military.
But can’t the local authorities remove the mines?
After all, it’s the local farmers who get their legs blown off or worse.
They can but why would they if they can easily sue to have them removed by the occupying force?
Goes to show they don’t care about the people.
It’s a telltale sign of corruption.
Same for USAID. Do they care about the Americans and American taxpayers? Of course not.
