But you are right about a house divided. I have no idea what will happen, and won’t be here to see it, but if there is any possibility of a peaceful separation, then both sides should work towards that.
I know that there is a popular belief on the Left, that all ‘red states’ are net takers of Federal spending … so you should be glad to kick us out. And we wouldn’t be around to obstruct new progressive advances on the race and sexual-orientation equalty front, reparations, etc.
And since all the high-tax-paying, well-educated people would stay behind in ‘Blue America’ … and we would get all the government-dependent aging poorly-educated redneck deplorable types … we would swiftly sink into poverty and chaos. I believe Aquinas said that one of the pleasures of the Saved would be watching the torments of the Damned in hell, so … you could gloat at our distress!!!

I certainly wouldn’t be amongst those gloating over armed insurrection, civil war or a split of the US. I don’t see the fussy outcome of any of that that you apparently do.
My reply is a bit late … you’re right about both the possibility of trouble – how the Left and MSM would have loved that – and the fact that adults ran things.
One interesting fact: the VCDL asked that people not bring long arms, and I agreed with that and argued for it on those media where I could take part in discussions on this. Yet people brought them, and there was no problem, and … I think I (and the VCDL) were wrong. I don’t think people toting their ARs did make it look frightening, because the people themselves – smiling, happy, your fellow Americans – by and large didn’t look scarry. I think the ‘long arms’ actually made it more interesting.
And … I have to be careful how I say this … I think it may have helped condition people to understanding a critical fact: an old quote by Bismarck that I have practically worn out: the big questions facing mankind are settled, in the end, not by parliamentary majorities, but by blood and iron.
It seems to me that the American experiment is coming to an end, with the country moving towards two peoples, as different from each other as Tamils and Sinhalese, Burmese and Rohingyas, Protestants and Catholics in Northern Ireland,Serbs and Croats, Ukrainians and Russians … and the list could be extended. (I always have to keep from laughing out loud when an earnest liberal tells me that “Diversity is Strength” – right out of Orwell.)
So the more “iron” we have, and are known to have, the more likely our friends on the Left are to listen to our reasonable demands for a peaceful separation some day.
It certainly scares the hell out of a lot of people just seeing a “scary black rifle” in the hands of young men.
Were I organizing the event I’d have done all I could to limit/prevent the open carry of long guns just to avoid alarming the public but in this case it seems to have worked out ok.
I have no issue at all with OC of handguns but there’s no sense scaring people when you can avoid it. It’s very hard to win anyone over to your side of an argument or issue if you start out scaring the hell out of, or otherwise provoking them.
Militancy has it’s place but only when civility fails.

When I read posts by people boasting that they will fight to the death defending their 2A rights, I have to wonder if they are conscious provocateurs, or people with manhood issues, or just people whose residence in this country, with its long tradition of unfettered free speech has made them a bit careless in their talk.
