IMO, there is nothing wrong with saying so anymore than saying you are Irish-American, Italian-American and so on. Celebrate your culture and your roots.
However, when celebrating culture diverses from assimilation, then I have a problem with it.

I know it is an example, but the fact remains that if you say “Hispanics” in NYC, it’s automatically Puerto Ricans. Not so in Chicago.
