It should be common knowledge to all who are aware of what happens in the lungs…oxygen inhaled is exchanged for carbon dioxide exhaled. The mask impedes the dissipation of the CO2 into the surrounding air and causes some of it to be inhaled back into the lungs.
The mask has no benefit other than reducing the volume of water droplets (that are vehicles for the virus) exhaled into the surrounding air.
It doesn’t protect the wearer at all. It is meant to protect other people that may be near the wearer.
