So… a major reason that police forces as they exist today are “necessary” and commonplace is that they are effectively a replacement for social equity and mental healthcare. If we address poverty and address mental healthcare, if we address systemic racism and stop creating criminals where none would otherwise exist (e.g. war on drugs) we would need far fewer police, and those police would interact with the public less because we would have a lot more social workers. We’d also be spending a lot less money for public peace overall.
It requires some re-imagination but is not at all an unsolvable problem.
The intermediate step between that reality and our current one is something like what happened in Camden NJ.
When the Camden police force was disbanded and reformed with a lower budget, lower salaries, strict residency requirements, and an emphasis on de-escalation, crime went down 40%.
This past weekend Philadelphia had police riots. Camden police marched with demonstrators.

So IOW, it was easy for cops to kill Mr. Floyd due to his underlying health issues. Prosecutors have changed the murderers charge to 2nd degree murder, and his three accomplices have been charged now too…
People who die from opiod overdose die from respiratory failure. With the Wuflu, a shit ton of fentanyl, and health problems I don’t know how they will prove it was the cop’s knee that killed Saint Jogger.
