Too “White” Yale to scrap their Intro to Art History Course

In the latest attempt by the cultural Marxist at revisionist history they (Yale) decided it was a good idea to forgo teaching a Into to Art History because some students feel uneasy about learning about white Europeans who gave us such classics of Impressionism, Renaissance and Romantic forms of art. Orwell warned us about the rewriting and destruction of history and it appears that is exactly what is happening throughout all colleges in the US, a disturbing trend that should get our attention!

Yale will stop teaching a storied introductory survey course in art history, citing the impossibility of adequately covering the entire field — and its varied cultural backgrounds — in one course.

Decades old and once taught by famous Yale professors like Vincent Scully, “Introduction to Art History: Renaissance to the Present” was once touted to be one of Yale College’s quintessential classes. But this change is the latest response to student uneasiness over an idealized Western “canon” — a product of an overwhelmingly white, straight, European and male cadre of artists.

This spring, the final rendition of the course will seek to question the idea of Western art itself — a marked difference from the course’s focus at its inception. Art history department chair and the course’s instructor Tim Barringer told the News that he plans to demonstrate that a class about the history of art does not just mean Western art. Rather, when there are so many other regions, genres and traditions — all “equally deserving of study” — putting European art on a pedestal is “problematic,” he said.

We don’t want European art on a pedestal.

The Veiled Christ; cut from a single piece of Carrera Marble. I could not stop looking the day I saw this. “All” great art should be displayed & studied, regardless of it’s origin.

Or this maybe? See the “White” people?

What are they going to look at? A bunch of primitive African tribal face masks that were made last week and sold on eBay?

When are we going to pull ALL federal funding from Yale? Not like they need it but this should be the response to this obvious racist action.

What is the purpose of federal funding an Ivy League school like Yale? I mean it’s a pretty exclusive school to begin with where mostly privilege rich kids go to in which they pay through the nose in tuition fees, so not sure where the justification of granting that school any money from tax payers to fund it. Also Yale is where most CIA recruits come from.

Actually there are many great black artists. Just allow all art to be what it is, ART. Easy, even for the novice, to recognize high end art. Also easy to recognize mediocre work.

With a basic intro course , do you have to cover everything? Art is art no matter who created it. You could also say a painting by a chimpanzee is art.
Are these spoiled rich brats by this??

That is a good question as Art History moved from “Modernity” to “Post Modernism” art became pluralistic and subjective. Therefore Art in the classical term was consider high society, bourgeois by the counter culture that sought to charge its societal perceptions on the basis of relativism. Trying to make an argument based on the notion of contemporary art needs to be included and not focus on being European centric is nothing more than a feign attempt at revisionist history and replace it with political correctness by shaming the past.

Yale, Harvard, Columbia - all the ivy league colleges are garbage. They’ve destroyed their own reputations with the shitbags they graduate. Who can take any of their output seriously?

Really becoming tired of racist attacks on culture. It is unacceptable to target any culture in such a way.

White students should attend black universities and demand course changes. What do you think the medias reaction would be besides racism if they would cover it at all.

I am not sure how effective that would be in terms of addressing the issue, however if someone wants to try by all means go for it, but first they have to be accepted into the college which is a big hurdle.

On a more philosophical note, back in WWII when the bombing campaign of Dresden was in full operation, it was mentioned the reason why that city was targeted was because it was the epicenter for German Arts culture and leveling the city was more to do with striking a psychological blow more than anything. Wipe out Art of Nations culture and you demoralise the country’s identity. I can not help but think of parallels of this latest action to what happened to Dresden. Metaphorically speaking of course!

Retro intellectual retardation in the name of what some perverted version of Social Justice?

This morning Yale said they are reversing this decision .Good News!!
