Official Coronavirus Thread - The Next Airborne Misery - Open General ☣

The world ends not with a bang, but with a random Chinese guy coughing on you.

Keep your distance from Chinese guys for the time being Supreme…:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

When I view the link below on my phone I am also presented with a button which can translate the page into English. In my browser I am not presented with an equivalent button, and I have looked, so I have no suggestions thereto…

The article shows the market in Wuhan which is supposed to be a fish market. It also shows the selection of animals available for sale including various wild animals, snakes, bats and stolen pets. Until I saw this collage I never understood how the environment for viruses that could mutate and cross species might exist. However in the Wuhan ‘fish’ market conditions are ripe for any kind of mayhem … it seems.

The Brits need to track down and test 2000 people. Stay calm though…this is completely normal and manageable.

It always gets me how things like this often emerge in proximity to drills or studies…

I had to stop looking when I got to the dogs.

I completely agree. It is a septic, toxic cesspool. Anyone as inhumane or participates in anything as inhumane as this should be the first and only to be selected by the virus so they can suffer just a fraction of the misery they have caused.

Of course, innocents will be affected as a byproduct of the promotion or wink, wink nod, nod of perpetuating stupidity despite the science.

I wonder if the dems of California are taking note? Somehow, I doubt it. Their conditions are (d)ifferent.

I think Mother Nature is brewing up some serious culling.

Make room for Greta and AOC to blame this on Global Warming.

If China, who is all about “saving face” and suppressed this information to begin with, is quarantining millions of people during their lunar whatever? :flushed:

That tells me this is very serious. I suspect much more serious than we are being led to believe.

I hope I am wrong.

Every few years it seems we get one of these incredibly frightening pandemic threats. The majority of the time I brush them aside as media hype and scare tactics. This time I am actually concerned. The media seems to be doing everything it can to downplay the seriousness of this. The usual hype machine seems cautiously optimistic and reassuring. The hair on the back of my neck is up.

The Chinese have been eating all kinds of animals for thousands of years.
But why corona outbreak now all of a sudden?

@Bren845
AIDS was thought to decimate human population.
Did it happen?

Same here…

Well that’s never going to happen nor should it. The protections of the US constitution apply to everyone within it’s jurisdiction.

Probably never as it would lead to a worldwide nuclear exchange wiping out most of humanity and terrestrial animal life.

There’s an unconfirmed possibility that there might have been some minor transmission due to dirty needles, that’s it.

First Case of Coronavirus Confirmed in Australia

So he arrived from this shithole Chinese city on the 19th and didn’t show any symptoms…he was still contagious! Everyone he has come in contact with since the 19th in Australia is at risk but they are downplaying this.

What people can do to protect themselves

  1. When going out in public always wear a mask. The surgical masks are the best but the 3m respiratory masks work just as well, and you can probably find those at Home Depot or Lowe’s or any hardware store that sells paint products

  2. Wear protective eye wear. This virus can also be contracted through the eyes. The clear Smith and Wesson safety glasses work fine that can be purchased at Walmart or anything similar that are considered safety glasses will work too.

  3. Load up on hand Sanitizer and avoid touching mouth, eyes, and face before cleaning your hands if you come in contact with any public surfaces such as doors, hand railings, etc.

  4. Avoid eating at any public restaurants or any buffets.

  5. Avoid any air travel if possible and stay close to home when necessary. If you have family members make sure they are on the same page as you when taking these precautions as it’s just as important to be aware of their movements in order to prevent them from bringing home any contagions should they be exposed.

  6. Keep pets on a leash and be aware of their movement if you have any. The last parts are just precautionary measures.

  7. Stock up on necessary provisions such as food, ammo, batteries, water, etc. Again just a precaution but the more you can avoid going to public places the less chance you will have in coming in contact with the deadly virus.

  8. Stay informed, and if you know of anyone that maybe infected report them immediately to local health officials.

Edit:

  1. This is for those who can’t avoid work and work in an environment that either shares a computer or is exposed to more people, public common areas such as desks, kitchen or commissary. Always clean you desk surface, key board before using with sanitizer wipes such as Clorox anti bacterial wet wipes. Clean your cups or dishes before use. And pack your lunch instead of eating foods at the commissary. Again these are just precautionary measures, but remember work place environments is where the common cold is usually most likely to be contracted so extra precaution is good advice.

Australia IMO is more susceptible due to having more Chines nationals traveling there regularly as well as permanent residents who immigrated there. Not to mention they are one of China’s biggest importers for food. New Zealand too!

There is no difference in effectiveness between the N95 masks and common surgical masks.

We identified 6 clinical studies (3 RCTs, 1 cohort study and 2 case–control studies) and 23 surrogate exposure studies. In the meta-analysis of the clinical studies, we found no significant difference between N95 respirators and surgical masks in associated risk of (a) laboratory-confirmed respiratory infection (RCTs: odds ratio [OR] 0.89, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.64–1.24; cohort study: OR 0.43, 95% CI 0.03–6.41; case–control studies: OR 0.91, 95% CI 0.25–3.36); (b) influenza-like illness (RCTs: OR 0.51, 95% CI 0.19–1.41); or (c) reported workplace absenteeism (RCT: OR 0.92, 95% CI 0.57–1.50).

Whatever, I am just putting it out there so people are aware and they can make their own decisions what works best. That is what people are doing here in HK. Of course doing more research on what is more effective is helpful too, so thanks for the info.
