Former Vice President Joe Biden has a lot of baggage that would harm his chances with the progressive wing of the Democratic party. He has a long history of tough on crime legislation which includes weakening habeas corpus, expanding federal surveillance powers, backing expansions of the drug war, and longer sentences which have particularly effected the black community. He opposed busing to desegregate schools and made comments that were pro-Confederate. On women’s issues he has a long history as a moderate regarding abortion and did not believe Anita Hill’s sexual harassment allegations.
Joe Biden’s real support has been among the banking industry. He worked to undermine bankruptcy protection for credit card customers. Notably his son, Hunter Biden, was awarded a six figure job with that credit card company.
Hunter Biden, Joe Biden’s living son, has frequently benefited from the political power of his father. Hunter Biden formed a shady capital firm with John Kerry’s children, Rosemont. Hunter Biden also has foreign connections with Ukrainian energy firm Burisma. Hunter Biden was given a commission in the Navy Reserve while his father was Vice President. Hunter Biden needed two waivers, one for his age and another for a previous drug conviction. Hunter Biden was dismissed from the Navy Reserve after testing positive for cocaine.
He has other assorted issues. Joe Biden has suffered from two nearly fatal brain aneurysms and he would be 78 on inauguration day 2021. He has been dogged by allegations of plagiarism going all the way back to law school. Furthermore he opposed the raid that killed Osama bin Laden.
