Greatest F1 and Indy Races in History! Greatest Drivers in History!

This thread topic is for Formula One racing enthusiasts. Greatest Races and Greatest Drivers in the history of the sport or simply the history of the sport.

Why I am a big fan of the sport is the level of engineering that is needed to be competitive, and of course the design concepts that have evolved over the years. Same reason why the Bobsled competition in the Olympics has always been a favorite of mine, its the narrative of what goes into the sport that has always fascinated me. Engineering!

Who do you think was the greatest F1 Driver of all time?

My choice has always been Aryton Senna! Senna could make the car dance always pushing it to its limits, and truly remarkable driving skills in the most atrocious weather conditions. There has never been a driver like him in the Sport of F1 ever since!

My favorite Moments of Aryton Senna!

Senna’s last victory before his untimely death in 1994

Am I biased? Yes I am am. However the debate of who was the greatest F1 Driver of all time is subjective! Michael Schumacher, Jim Hunt, Jackie Stewart, Nigel Mansell, Jim Clark, Alain Prost, Niki Lauda, Nelson Piquet, Juan Manuel Fangio, were some of the best. Of course we are not including the current field of drivers of Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, and Sabastian Vettel who may redefine that argument when their careers are finished, but certainly they differ from the eras of previous drivers due to the technological advancements in the sport that gives weight to the argument that modern drivers rely too much on technology and not on pure driving skills like their predecessors. What do you think?

Two Different perspectives on who was the greatest F1 driver of all time, only proves that is a highly subjective argument!

Interesting, there has only been two Americans who have won the F1 Championship in the entire history of the sport. Mario Andretti and Phil Hill.

Up until 1978, Phil Hill was the only American to ever have won the sports highest prize.

In 1978, the other American was Mario Andretti who won the the F1 World Championship.

Top F1 Cars of all time! No love for Ford! How can that be?

I’d have to go with Juan Fangio. His win percentage record will last for generations.

Those Ferrari Scuderia’s were a thing of beauty back then. Hard to argue that Fangio was the greatest driver of all time when you consider that a lot of people died racing back then. The fact he won so many titles and survived to tell the tale is pretty remarkable in of itself!

Fangio was still driving at age 74. This piece is a little in poor quality, but still a fun look at a car event of of the classics. Phil Hill had also put in a cameo appearance.

I thought you would appreciate this. ts interesting to see how much F1 Cars have changed over the years, but the footage here is pretty amazing at the Auto Nazionale Monza

They seem to have far fewer crashes these days. The down force aerodynamics make a huge difference.

I don’t like auto racing much, the only time I watched a lot of it was in '94-95 when I was living in Asia as an expat and the only TV sports I got had a lot of stuff I never watched like F1 and Cricket.

Anyway, that was how I noticed Schumacher. Correct me if I’m wrong but he drove for a team with an inferior car and still dominated. He just seemed to be a better driver than everyone else. He was something of a villain, called a cheater, but still he seemed to be better than guys like Damon Hill, who had a better car.

I seem to remember him winning one race after his car got stuck in one gear, something like that.

My interest in Nascar racing dwindled to near zero. Back when the cars came from the factory and had limited modifications, so it was truly manufacturer and driver pairs pitted against each other, I literally loved it. Now, with the cookie cutter cars and the drivers helping each other while racing…it sucks.

My favorite auto racing is done on dirt tracks. In one night at a good dirt track there will be many races in many classes…and boiled peanuts.
