Basic Rights in the US

It’s called the politics of greed and envy.

So a question. How has the welfare system worked out? What about the education system since we created the Department of Education? Ever had healthcare provided by the military? I can assure you that you’re treated like a damn number there and there’s ZERO profit…

Your reasons are not “very good” nor are the least bit convincing.

IP is produced by the work and money of those who develop them. The profit motive drives innovation and technological advancement.

People/companies deserve to profit from the ideas that lead to those advancements.

Tens of trillions have been spent on the WOP since 64 and the poverty rate hasn’t varied more than a few points up and down since about 68.

The state of public education has gone backwards for 40 years and our worst schools are spending the most money per student.

Stop that. I was hoping he would say they were amazing success stories.

Will never forget some surgery at Walter Reed. Could not even bend to tie my shoes when discharged from the hospital. That was expected. But they had me wash down my entire bed frame, top to bottom, the day I left.

But it was cheap.

okay, if you say so
but Im not just giving you my opinion about UHC , Im giving an example of the UHC in the UK who refuse to treat young Charlie because it was too expensive, if his parents had the money they would have traveled to the USA for treatment, unfortunately the Go fund me page for young Charlie wasn’t set up in time , and the non UHC in America might have saved his life.

I suspect he thinks that a lightbulb goes off inside one’s head and 1 hour later, there is a patent application.

Not so. There are wickets that a company will put you through to establish the validity and value of a patent. One does not have to reduce it to practice but one must credibly describe how that would be done . The patents are not just granted by USPTO if the patent is nonsense. They are thoroughly vetted. And that takes many hours of technical and legal work to get them granted.

Typical case of someone writing about something they know nothing about.

I’m not on welfare, but I imagine for the people that need it… it has worked wonders.

Is there correlation between the department of education and a decline in education? Not sure there is.

I have never been to the VA but my father is a retired Vet. His VA here in so cal is pretty good he says. However it may be about perspective, I concede that it may not be that way elsewhere.

and what is the difference?

If I go by Marx and Engels definition its the workers who are in charge of the mode of production, and socialism is the bridge between capitalism and communism

If I go by the definition of social democracy its supposed to be the political theory that advocates the peaceful transition from Capitalism to socialism an Unorthodox marxism so speak.

So what is the difference, one is peaceful and the other advocates violent revolution overthrowing capitalism ?

Welfare is expensive, creates generations of dependents and doesn’t address the underlying conditions that cause a person to be unable to care for themselves. It’s just a government check so some politician can check mark a box that says he helped. It doesn’t help people get out of poverty, it simply gives them just enough to keep from starving and encourages generation after generation to sign up.

Yes, there is a direct correlation between those two items. It’s no coincidence that our test scores compared to the world have been in decline since the Feds started regulating it. Spending, on the other hand, has gone through the roof.

There are some decent VA hospitals but if you want real government health care, where the doctors are government employees rather than private contractors, go get medical from someone in the Army. You’re a number and nothing more. Hell, I had a root canal from an Army dentist. I had to have it fixed a few years later as a civilian because it was a mess and when he started drilling, it wasn’t deadened and his response… You’re a soldier, you’ll be fine. I’ve since had another one from a civilian dentist and felt not one pinch aside from the shot. Had a very similar experience with my rotator cuff. Three Army doctors, three different ideas, one gave me ranger candy because he said I strained it, one told me to not use it for a few weeks, one said it was a pulled muscle. I went to a real doctor and they gave me a steroid shot and it healed somewhat, though if I use it wrong, it still gives me grief today, 25 years later. I’ve been told it needs surgery but I haven’t wanted to take the down time to have it fixed because it really doesn’t impact me a lot. One day, it’ll need to be fixed and I won’t let an Army doctor anywhere near it.

No offense but I’ve been listening to Occasional Cortex and Bernie Sanders and they’re pushing Socialism with a new name.

There are those that need assistance and those that abuse it. Doesn’t mean that welfare is bad. What is your alternative?

Maybe you forgot to post the data, but do you have something that shows a direct correlation between the Dept of Ed and a decline in education?

The poverty rate has remained pretty steady since 68, so obviously it hasn’t solved anything with respect to poverty.

Since the DOEd was created the US has fallen from number one in the world to around 20th in math and science.

Maybe the poverty rate remaining steady is a has nothing to do with welfare?

Do you have any data that correlates dept Ed to the fall in education?

Funding had nothing to do with it. It was a perverse notion of what constituted his best interests that is to blame.

Nope … the highway system today has almost everything to do with commerce, regardless of your ability to use it for your personal benefit. Even your personal use has an economic aspect. You use it to go to and from work; you use it it go to the store and take trips (during which you engage in commerce.) Even if you only drive for pleasure, you burn gasoline and wear out tires and eventually need to replace your car. Without the highways, our economy would wither away to a local barter and trade society. As James Carville said, “ it’s the economy stupid.”

and it had to do with money, it was too expensive for the system according to ( I cannot recall the doctor’s name) and whoever represents the minister of health for the Tory party in power.

My alternative is to enable private charities that can determine need rather than just serve people as they line up without conditions. It’s obvious that the war on poverty hasn’t done a damn thing to help the lower income. It’s interesting, they’ve spent trillions and every year, we hear about how the need is still there and the gap has increased… ever wonder the basics behind that?

I own rentals. You come tax me on a rental @ $600 a year to fund a school lunch program for my tenant. What’s my response? I jack up the rent by $50 a month, or $600 a year. I get extra revenue on paper, though my net income is exactly the same. Government gets revenue and they kick $400 of it to the child of the renter so they get “free lunch”. The government then proceeds to claim victory because the kid gets “free lunches” and they just socked it to the rich guy with the rentals, then they get to blame me for jacking up the rent and call me evil and call for a new round of taxes on the “rich”… meanwhile, they get the vote for “helping”, they grab extra revenue that they waste on some pet project to fund their buddies and get to play the good guy role. . . Sounds simplistic but that’s exactly how it works.

As to the education, it’s well documented that our standing in the world has dropped since the late 70’s and our spending has gone through the roof. If nothing else, my chart shows ZERO improvement with a massive spending hike… isn’t that plenty of data to show failure? I’ll dig more up later but it’s time to hit the sack.

If welfare isn’t aiding us in dropping the poverty rate, what the hell are we spending that money for? Is the goal to keep them in poverty or is the goal to help them get out of poverty? Capitalism has pulled more people out of poverty than any system out there and government has put more people in poverty than any system out there…
