    Sarah Murnaghan, the 10-year-old girl suffering from end-stage cystic fibrosis whose bid to get a transplant from adult lungs drew national attention, received a lung transplant Wednesday. "Her doctors are very pleased with both her progress during the procedure and her prognosis for recovery,'' her family said in a statement issued after surgery in Philadelphia.

    Four wildfires burning across the state Wednesday have destroyed dozens of homes and forced thousands to evacuate, including 900 inmates from a state prison. Near Colorado Springs, El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa said Wednesday afternoon that the Black Forest Fire had destroyed 92 homes and damaged five others. Flames were jumping fire lines and burning uncontrolled over about 48 square miles.

    A class-action lawsuit filed in federal court in San Diego says 15 IRS agents illegally seized the medical records of more than 10 million Americans ... The lawsuit, filed last month in Superior Court by Malibu, Calif., lawyer Robert E. Barnes on behalf of an unnamed firm — identified in court records as the “John Doe Company” — seeks $25,000 in compensatory damages for each victim for violations of Fourth Amendment rights, which guard against unreasonable searches and seizures.
